DISCUSSION: Monetizing The Drew Reviews
Okay, so if you've heard our episode on The Dark Tower, you'll know that we're looking at monetization for the podcast! We're not sure how to do it yet, so we're gonna post some FAQs to to clarify what we're thinking. Then we're gonna open the floor to all of you.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY MONETIZING?
We want to make some money with this (if only just a little bit).
COULDN'T YOU JUST HAVE ADS?
Our subscriber base isn't large or diverse enough (yet) for sponsors.
SO YOU WANT LISTENERS TO GIVE YOU MONEY?
Yes.
WHAT WOULD PAYING LISTENERS GET, EXACTLY?
If we ever implemented a paid subscription model or paid content, you would be paying for bonus content. Everything you're getting right now will remain free.
COULDN'T YOU DO A KICKSTARTER/INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN?
We don't really have the time or resources to manage a crowdfunding campaign.
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED PATREON?
We've thought about it a lot. Patreon allows folks like you to give money to the artists you like on a monthly basis. It's a membership business, really. Listeners would pay a membership fee to receive bonus content/rewards. Patreon could be in the show's future, but I wouldn't expect it soon.
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED OPENING A PAYPAL DONATION BOX?
Yes! That might be the easiest thing to do for now.
WHY NOW?
Growth, baby! We'd like to invest in promotion, new software, new equipment, and new talent. It'd also be nice to offset the cost of hosting the show and this website.
WILL THE PODCAST CONTINUE TO BE FREE?
Absolutely! But we're kicking around the idea of offering additional premium video and audio content that you guys would want to buy.
VIDEOS, HUH?
Yep! Think our Fateful Findings video, but shorter (10-15 minutes). The focus would be on comedic criticism of movies both good and bad.
Now before we implement anything, we want to let all of you have your say in the comments below. What do you think? Would you be willing to kick us few bucks on a regular basis to fund the show? If not, that's okay! Just tell us why. We're trying to make something really great, and we need your input!
